The award is to select, recognise and celebrate an outstanding Engineer each year by the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
CALL FOR NOMINATION
The Nigerian Society of Engineers, the umbrella organisation of all engineers in Nigeria invites nomination for qualified engineers for the Engineer of the Year Award.
Eligibility: To be considered, a candidate must:
• Be a corporate member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and registered with COREN.
• Have his application supported by a Branch or Division.
Nomination Format:
The completed Nominated Form of each applicant should be submitted with 4 copies and the original and 4 copies of a report with the following format:
(a) Cover page
(b) Copy of Candidate’s resume or curriculum vitae
(c) Description of Service or achievement which merits special honour upon which the nomination is based.
The description should show:
• The specific role the nominee played in each accomplishment listed.
• The degree of impact of the accomplishments of the nominee.
Criteria for Selection:
Each nominee must have demonstrated outstanding engineering contribution towards the realization of the mission, vision and objectives of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. The nominee must have been directly involved as a key player in the exemplary work or must have had direct control over it.
(a)Consideration for engineering accomplishment-design development, control, testing, research, writing (both formal and informal journal articles). Achievement of at least one specific engineering accomplishment characterised by initiative, innovation and creativity with Nigerian content and of clear intellectual distinction and imagination to an unusual degree. This accomplishment should result in an advancement of the state of the art, science or practice of engineering or make a significant contribution to the solution of an important and difficult engineering problem.
(b) The development of a major improvement in a procedure, policy or regulation which increases efficiency, reduces costs, saves time or otherwise contributes significantly to the accomplishment of an important engineering objective.
(c) Consistent superior performance in the accomplishment of assigned duties over a documented period of time which results in the work which exceeds expected measurement objectives.
(d) The work must have the potential for a strong and positive impact on the Nigerian economy. It must also be an invention of new Technology or an innovative adaptation for wide application in the country.
